The Renaissance was the rebirth of mankind throughout 1300-1600, and people changed their “view” of how they wanted to live life. People began to focus more on themselves and put religion to the side, this was called humanism or individualism. There are a couple of ways that the Renaissance changed man’s view of man.
One way was through art, of course. There are many famous artworks one could list that came from the Renaissance, such as the Mona Lisa. In the Middle Ages, artwork and paintings weren’t as detailed, they were more religious-themed, 2D, and sometimes looked unrealistic. Artwork from the Renaissance, however, was quite the opposite. It was more realistic, textures were added for more of a 3D style, and was more focused on the art itself, but little hints of religion were still contained somewhere in it.
Another way was through literature. Literature from the Middle Ages was darker. It focused on sin, death, God and his punishment for mankind, etc. Renaissance literature was still dark here and there, but again, the focus was mostly on man, and how amazing mankind is. One person who really made a difference for literature during the Renaissance was William Shakespeare.
Next, there’s astronomy. Throughout the entire period of the Middle Ages, people believed that the universe was geocentric, drawn from a diagram by Ptolemy. The Church taught this to people for years, but this was later proven to be wrong, obviously. In the Renaissance, Copernicus proved Ptolemy wrong by creating a diagram of the universe that was heliocentric. His diagram is still used to this day.
Lastly, there were changes in anatomy. During the Middle Ages, it was taught that the ideas of the human body were controlled by zodiac signs, or the constellations. When the Renaissance period rolled around, Andreas Vesalius made changes to this concept. He created a diagram that was more realistic and actually based on anatomy and biology; how the human body really is.
This is how the Renaissance had changed man’s view of man. If it hadn’t, we’d still be following all of these ideas that were incorrect, such as the universe being geocentric and how the human body was based on the zodiac. The Renaissance was an amazing experience for people, and the world has learned a lot by focusing more on themselves.
